Welcome

Welcome back, Falcons!
Good afternoon, families of Booth-Fickett;

I am excited to join Booth-Fickett K8 school as the principal for the 2022-23 school year! I was fortunate to spend the afternoon with Dr. Oliver yesterday.  I assure you that she is not taking her move lightly.  Her biggest concern is the continued support and education of all children at Booth-Fickett.  I wish her well on her new adventure, as I know you do too.  As we spoke yesterday, I felt I understand both the direction and many of the priorities of our families.  She misses you all already.  I expect to make a smooth transition from her administration.  First, I am looking forward to meeting all our children and helping them find success and comfort at school.  I am also excited to continue to support all our families as well as our building faculty & staff to offer the best education to all our children.
Our new assistant principal, Mrs. Siobhan Daniel, and I are working to ensure that our full staff is hired before school starts.  I am told that you should be able to see your child(ren)'s schedule online and that our staff can now see their students.  We have one more elementary teacher to hire, and I am very excited about our prospects!  We have already made positive progress since we both started Wednesday (7/13).  Teachers should let you know supply lists soon.  There is not a requirement for clear backpacks.
We do still have some classified staff to hire.  If you are interested in working near your children, or know someone who would be good, please direct them to the TUSD website for more information.  It is always good to have people who already love our children work with them to be their best.
On a personal note, I have been in Oregon for the past two decades and I am thrilled to be returning to Tucson.  Although, I will deeply miss the students & staff at my current school, Tucson will always be my home.  Tucson is the place where most, maybe all, of the important events in my life have happened including high school and college, my first teaching job, meeting & marrying my husband, and the birth of my 2 sons at TMC.  Earlier this week as I drove through Tucson I was reminded once again that this is a beautiful place with wonderful people.
Many wonderful things were shared with me about the students, families, and staff of Booth-Fickett.  I am proud to join this team.  Every day I will do my best to support each student, family, and staff member. I have a deep personal belief in the human potential for growth as well as helping our children become educated positive members of our society.  Education includes math and writing as well as compassion and kindness.  I look forward to us continuing to see growth in all our children.
As you wrap up your summer vacation and get ready to face another school year, we are working tirelessly to create positive environments and prepare interesting & relevant lessons. I am looking forward to scheduling a meet the administration evening in August.  I also plan on working with the PTO toward continued school improvement.  You will hear more from me soon.
Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year   As Cesar Chavez said, "Never, never is it possible to reach someone if you become angry or bitter only love and gentleness can do it. Maybe not this time but maybe the next or the hundredth time."  The faculty & staff are honored to offer love and gentleness to all our students every day.  I look forward to meeting each of you soon.
